Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine La Cabotte 2005 Old Vines
This first release from one of my favorite Cotes de Rhone producers is just stunning. What a wine, deep, rich extracted fruit with blackberries, coco, cherry tobacco and baking spice all with a weighty mouth feel and a grippy but fine finish. Very Limited Availability. Only a tiny quantity of this Chateauneuf is produced (1300 bottles) by the Cabotte estate.
The wine has elegant and subtly spiced aromas, with an unctuous mouth-feel which reveals both freshness and a firm structure. The ripeness and purity of the fruit mean this can be approached now, but the quality and structure ensure it will continue to develope over the next decade, a superb wine. A fine blend of Syrah and Grenache.
